One of the best actors of the modern age as far as I’m concerned. Oldman got his start on the British stage, which is where his over-the-top or larger-than-life style of acting was shaped. He starting gaining real traction in the late 1980s with inspiring performances in Sid & Nancy and Prick Up Your Ears. When the 1990s came, they saw him giving birth to a new on-screen persona… the charismatic villain. And so Oldman’s long line of legendary villains began, State of Grace, JFK, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Leon: The Professional, True Romance, The Fifth Element, Air Force OneThe Contender, etc.. Although he still plays the occasional villain, recent franchises like The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, and The Planet of the Apes have him teaming up with the good guys. In 2011, Oldman earned his first Academy Award nomination for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. After decades of playing the eccentric and the outwardly emotional, George Smiley was a very different type for Oldman. In maybe his most subtle and reserved character yet, Oldman shined like only a well-trained and experienced thespian could.
